MAGMA Global is at the forefront of advanced engineering, delivering world-class solutions for the subsea oil and gas sector.
The Portsmouth-based company specialises in manufacturing cutting-edge carbon fibre pipes for the subsea oil and gas industry.
Their innovative m-pipe® technology is designed to simplify operations and reduce costs, making them a leader in their field.
When one of their essential spools required thorough cleaning to support ongoing production, they turned to Vinci Response for a safe and efficient solution tailored to their needs.
The Challenge:
The spool’s surface was coated in a stubborn sticky residue that required careful cleaning to avoid damage to the underlying metal.
Traditional cleaning methods, such as chemical treatments or abrasive blasting, were unsuitable for this task due to the risk of surface damage and the extensive clean-up they entail.
MAGMA Global needed a solution that would preserve the spool’s integrity while delivering a spotless finish promptly and efficiently.
Our Solution:
To tackle the sticky residue on MAGMA Global’s spool, we employed dry ice blasting—a cutting-edge cleaning method that delivers exceptional results without causing surface damage.
Using high-pressure equipment, we propelled frozen CO₂ pellets at the contaminated areas. Upon impact, the dry ice sublimated (evaporated instantly), lifting the residue from the metal surface without leaving any secondary waste.
This process was ideal for MAGMA’s needs, as it is non-abrasive, eco-friendly, and highly efficient. Our technicians carefully adjusted the size and pressure of the pellets to ensure precise cleaning, achieving a spotless finish that prepared the spool for its next layer of protective material.
